The Trustee may provide assistance to meet the basic necessities of life for those Brazil Township residents who might need a helping hand.

Who may we help …

  • Applicants must be 18 or older and have established a permanent household, not temporary living arrangement, within the Brazil Township.

  • Applicant and all adult members of the household must sign a verification of eligibility for State or Local Public Benefit as required by Indiana Code 8 U.S.C.1641 and consent to the disclosure of information to the Brazil Township Trustee.

  • A signed and submitted application is valid for 180 days. The Brazil Township Trustee has 72 hours to decide on an application in writing. If an applicant disagrees with the decision, the applicant may ask for an appeal before the Board of Commissioners.

  • An approved application is based on the Federal Poverty Guidelines that includes the number of people in the household and the gross income (the amount before deductions) for the last 60 days prior to the application date.

 What is needed …

Mandatory Items

  • Valid/Current State or Federal Picture IDs for all adults in household.

  • Social Security Cards for all in household

  • Birth Certificates for all minor children, if available

  • Lease or Rental Agreement

  • Current and previous month’s utility bills including phone and cable

  • After February 1, copy of filed Tax Return showing refunds, etc.

Income Statements

  • Pay Stubs

  • Termination Notification

  • Housing Authority Utility

  • Self-employment income

  • SSI, Social Security, Pension Income

  • Other Income

  • Unemployment compensation

  • Current Bank Statements

  • Child Support printout

  • Proof of TANF applications

  • Food Stamps

  • Copies of Federal and State Tax Returns-January to June

Bill Receipts

  • Rent or House Payments

  • Loan Payments

  • Medical Expenses

  • Transportation Expenses

  • Utility Bills – Energy Assistance Program Applications Required November through May

  • Child Support Payments

  • Car Payments

  • Telephone/Cable/DSL Payments

  • Any Other Paid Expense

  • Any other item as directed by Brazil Township Trustee

Who is not eligible …

  • Falsifying information on the application

  • Voluntarily quit employment, fired for just cause, refuse an offer of employment

  • Use violence or abusive language in or around Trustee Office

  • Fail to complete the work order requirements

  • Fail to accept free or low-cost housing arrangements as provided by relatives or others

  • Failure to complete report forms for assistance agencies to help meet basic necessities such as TANF, Food Stamps, Social Security/SSI, Medicare/Medicaid, Veteran’s Benefits, Unemployment, Child Support

  • Convicted of welfare fraud (misdemeanor, 1 year; felony, 10 years of application date)

  • Wasted resources (money spent on non-basic necessities of life)

  • Income over monthly Federal Guidelines

  • Not using utility allotment to pay utilities

  • Made previous payment arrangements before applying to Brazil Township Office

FAN GIVE AWAY PROGRAM

The Fan Give Away Program for residents of the Brazil Township began on May 22, 2018.

WORKFARE

If eligible for assistance, applicants will be required to work for a local government or non-profit agency and to actively seek employment unless disabled, over 65, needed for dependent or family care, or are fully employed.

 

EMPLOYMENT & JOB SEARCH

A computer is available for our constituents to use for online job applications and to download documentation for other assistance resources. This service will be available free of charge during regular office hours, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 11:00 AM to 3:30PM. The office is located at 537 East National Avenue, immediately west of Mario's Mexican Restaurant,  in Brazil.
